Tyler was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where Tyler’s roots of: dedication to family, community, integrity, and strong work ethic, developed from an early age.
“At the age of ten, I started helping my dad with his rental properties, simply because the work needed to get done; starting with installing flooring, and then moved into electrical wiring. I was running (full wiring & testing) by age 12.” By 14, I wired a house, and was proud to utilize these skills volunteering for Equitable Housing LTD, a Calgary- based, affordable housing nonprofit. I look forward to participating in Waterloo chapter of Habitat for Humanity builds to continue this hobby, for the benefit of others”
Work Experience – Tyler worked at A & W Restaurant (front-end, customer service) from Grade 9-12, up to three days per week, while also actively engaged in community, with Scouts, and later the Duke of Edinburgh programs.
“As a 14 year old, who truly looked 12, I recall being terrified at the A& W job interview. I knew the job, was my only shot of funding a school trip to Ottawa & Quebec. Looking back, the best advice I can give to teens, is get a job in the fast food industry; I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work in fast food as a teen, it teaches organization, structure, and real world skills. Further, checking off the list -“First Job Interview” early in my teen years, helped me move on the bigger accomplishments.” My A&W job changed the direction of my life, not only affording the school trip to Central Canada, where I expanded my learning interests in politics, geography, and history, working fast food developed my people skills rapidly.”
